Gospel Meeting 2017 – Jesus Is Still The Way

In today’s fast changing world it seems we are always on the lookout for the next new thing. The next TV show or movie. The next new gadget or fashion trend. The next big news story.  The next new.

But even in this world filled with “new” it is good to know that somethings never change. The most comforting is that the Almighty God never changes – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8, Malachi 3:6, James 1:17.  While God’s word tells us He will never change, this is not what we would be led to believe looking at Christianity today.  Today there are literally thousands of different churches, all claiming to serve the same God but all having very distinct beliefs about who He is and what His will is for us.  For every church there is something new to be heard.

Interestingly the Apostle Paul warned of Christians who had “itching ears” who were always seeking for something new— 2 Tim 4:3-4.  This was because anything new would have taken them away from Jesus Christ.  On another occasion Paul was preaching on Mars Hill to other persons eager to receive something new.  He taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ – Acts 17:18-21.  The gospel he preached was new to them but it was the same old gospel of Jesus Chirst.

The question we are left to ask is “How does what we see happening in Christianity harmonize with the word of God?”.  The simply answer is “It doesn’t!”.  If all churches taught the same gospel that Paul taught on Mars Hill, then all new hearers would become members of one church instead of thousands of different ones.  Instead it is more the fact that like the Christians Paul wrote about to Timothy, many have departed from the faith having found something new, something different from God’s word.

Where do you stand today? Are you in the faith having accepted the pure New Testament gospel of Jesus Christ or are you a part of something new which is a departure from what Jesus established?

If you are not a member of the church of Christ let me share some news with you.

– The word of God is still truth – John 17:17
– Hearing them and doing them is wisdom and ignoring them is folly – Matt 7:24,26
– Jesus is still the only way,  if we desire to come to God – John 14:6.
– God’s love sent Jesus to die so that we may have our sins forgiven  – John 3:16
– You must believe, repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins to be saved and added to the one church that Jesus built – Acts 2:37,38,41.

If Jesus is the same, then the way He has established remains the same.  If we are in that way then let us not be drawn away by new doctrines, but If we are not then this is the way we must enter.

Will you come?
