Jamaica COC Bible Quiz 2012

The National Bible Quiz was introduced in 2009 to inspire greater interest in Bible study among young Christians.  Throughout the three (3) years of its existence we have been impressed with the interest shown and the extent of the time and study put in, to prepare for the event.  We are confident that those who have participated have increased in knowledge of God’s word and are the better for it.

As we prepare for 2012 we feel the need to extend the reach of the quiz beyond the teams that prepare to compete to the wider youth groups and congregations from which they originate.  To this end, we would like to shift the emphasis from a study of the Question Booklets to actual Bible study, from simply knowing the answers to listed questions to knowledge of the material that comprises the questions.

For the 2012 Quiz, The Gospels has been chosen as the theme from which the questions will be taken.  This will require an in-depth study of the first four books of the New Testament – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and their accounts of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. A study guide is being provided, that outlines the various areas to be focused on.  There will be seven (7) areas of focus from which questions will be drawn for the Quiz competition:

1.    People

2.    Place

3.    Quotations

4.    Harmony of The Gospels

5.    Parables of Jesus

6.    Miracles of Jesus

7.    Prophecies of Jesus

The responsibility now falls with the individual congregations to organise themselves to cover the material outlined.  It will require much time spent in Bible reading, research and study.  We believe though, that for those who take up the challenge and see it through it will indeed be spiritually rewarding. Regardless of what happens on the day of competition the months spent studying and preparing will allow you to own knowledge of the Word of God that will eternally be yours. This knowledge will not be restricted to the competitors but to the entire group involved in the study, which can be any and everyone.

The entire competition will take place on August 25, 2012 beginning at 9AM and ending no later than 4PM.  The event will be hosted at the St. Ann’s Bay church of Christ (9 Royes Street, St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann – 972-8513).

We encourage all congregations to make an effort to support the event and to enter a team.  Where a congregation does not have sufficient members they may join with another congregation to form a team.  We encourage you to not only send a team, but to attend in support of your team and the competition as a whole.  This is a fun opportunity to learn and to compete in a healthy atmosphere of Christian love and fellowship.

You will find to the right of this page links to the rules of the competition as well as a registration form.  The completed registration form must be returned to the Patrick Gardens church of Christ, in person, by mail, or email no later than July 31, 2012.   From the submitted entries there will be a drawing for matches on August 8 at 8AM at the Annual Youth Retreat, Moneague, St. Ann, from which a schedule of the matches will be created.  This schedule will be circulated to the entered congregations.

Should you have any queries with regards to the competition, please do not hesitate to contact us.

This competition will have no losers, as we should all walk away encouraged and built-up from a day spent in the fellowship of the saints, exploring our knowledge of the word of God.
